I also had two insanely noisy copies of this pressing of the album. The first one was used, the other sealed and new. They sounded identically horrendous. Then I found another copy at a local secondhand record store. I gave it a shot, supersonic-cleansed it and it's one of the quietest records I have. So I can confirm both parties' comments here.It seems like a total lottery when it comes to 2000's Sonic Youth albums.

I have also had copies of The Destroyed Room and Murray Street which suffered from the same type of surface noise as this one. I tried another copy of each and both were dead quiet.
